He started with 760 J He gained energy from gravity = mgh = 80 * 9.8 * 3 = 2352 J the total energy is now 2352+760= 3112 J The energy Ek = 3112 J 1/2 m v^2 = 3112 -> v^2 = 2*3112/80 v = sqrt(2 * 3112 / 80) ~= 8.8 m/s
