(-5)^2 = (-5) × (-5) = 25 -5^2 = -(5 × 5) = -25

you can never have a negative number when you square it. neg x neg = pos. you need 1 neg and 1 pos to have a negative result

It’s not. It’s only -25 if it’s (5i)^2. 5^2 = 25 whether it’s 5^2 or (5)^2.

??? Whether or not there are parenthesis, it is still 25.
